DRY ICE WITH ABRASIVE ADDITIVE BLASTING

 

ICEsonic DRY ICE PLUS is a green cleaning technology integrating the advantages of dry ice blasting with the addition of a variety of abrasives.

How does it work?

The ICEsonic DRY ICE PLUS module is simply attached to the dry ice blaster, blasting hose and dry ice blasting gun. The abrasive is loaded and stored in the abrasive hopper separate from the dry ice.  A valve on the abrasive hopper sets the desired quantity of abrasive flow. By pulling the trigger on the blasting gun, the abrasive is introduced into the stream of dry ice.
The ICEsonic DRY ICE PLUS modules are available for single hose dry ice blasters (SMART Line, IS 75s and IS 77s) as well as double hose blasters (Mighty E and IS 75).

Where can it be used?

The ICEsonic DRY ICE PLUS technology produces a clean, satin finish to a SA 2½ specification. The target surface will not be pitted or gouged due to the low kinetic energy and is excellent for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), unlike the high energy impact and damage produced by straight sand or grit blasting.

The best results are generally obtained by adding 15% to 20% abrasive to the dry ice stream. This mix generates minimal dust pollution and abrasive usage.

What kind of abrasive can be used?

 

We advise the use of non-reactive silica abrasive particulate from 75 to 150 microns (.075-.15 mm/.003-.006”).  The type and size of the specific abrasive you use may vary on your application.

Larger abrasive sizes up to 1500-2000 microns (1.5-2 mm/.06-.08”) can be used, however this will increase the chance of abrasive ricochet and safety requirements will be higher.
